Duomo San Nicola di Bari
Maggior Chiesa:
Intitolata a S. Nicola di Bari, è la "Matrice", cioè la chiesa principale della città. Fra le opere d'arte spicca una croce lignea, realizzata nel 1484 dal pittore palermitano Pietro Ruzzolone, detto "il Raffaello di Sicilia", posta al centro del presbiterio, dipinta a tempera sopra fondo dorato. Da un lato è raffigurato Gesù Cristo sulla Croce, con la Madonna Addolorata, S. Giovanni e la Maddalena. Dalla parte opposta il Signore risorto. Inoltre, in un'apposita cappella, la statua dell'Immacolata, opera dello scultore Quattrocchi del 1799, particolarmente venerata quale "Patrona principale" di Termini Imerese. Nella sacrestia, in otto sale dedicate, sono custoditi, in apposite bacheche, paramenti, arredi e suppellettile sacri realizzati fra il XV e il XX secolo. Murato alla base del campanile uno spezzone di cornice, in stile corinzio, che la tradizione afferma provenire dal palazzo di Stenio, difensore della città contro il rapace governatore romano Verre
The Cathedral:
The so called "Matrice", that is the main church of the city, is dedicated to St Nicholas from Bari. Among the works of art a wooden cross stands out, made in 1484 by the Palermitan painter Pietro Ruzzolone, known as "The Raphael of Sicily", placed in the center of the presbytery, painted in tempera on a golden background. On one side Jesus Christ is depicted on the cross with Our Lady of Sorrows, St John and Mary Magdalene. On the opposite side the Risen Lord is pictured. Moreover, in a special chapel, there is the statue of the Immaculate Conception by the sculptor Quattrocchi, dating to 1799, particularly revered as the main patroness of Termini Imerese.
In the eight rooms of the sacristy, sacred vestments. furniture and furnishings, made between the 15th and the 20th centuries, are kept in special showcases.
Walled at the base of the bell tower there is a piece of frame, in the Corinthian style, that, according to tradition, comes from Stenio's palace, defender of the city against the greedy Roman governor Verre.
